Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Oklahoma City - Beginning September 19, the Cox Convention Center, home of the Oklahoma City Barons, will be getting prepared for the upcoming 2011-12 hockey season. The preparation isn't just inside though.
The southernmost exterior walls of the Cox Convention Center will be adorned with banners promoting the Barons theme of "Building" for 2011-12 hockey season. The three banners will cover nearly 10,000 square feet of the southern side of the Cox Convention Center facing Reno Ave. Installation of the signage will begin Monday morning, weather permitting, and is expected to take 3 - 4 days to complete.
In addition to the work outside, September 19 will also be a busy day inside the Cox Convention Center as crews prepare to make the ice surface for the 2011-12 campaign. The ice installation process begins early Monday morning with temperature of the arena floor dropping to a temperature that will freeze a thin coat of water. Following the application of the water, crews from the Cox Convention Center will paint the thin coat of ice white and paint the markings on the ice like faceoff circles, goal crease, blue line and red line. Following the painting of the lines, the crew will install the logos and then continually add layers of water to bring the ice surface to its desired thickness.
