Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators pushed its winning streak to three straight with a 4-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch in a Sunday matinee contest. Peter Mannino made 38 saves including 19 in the final period to preserve the B-Sens win.
Syracuse took the lead 8:18 into the period when Yanni Gourde converted a power-play goal for his team-leading 22nd tally of the season. Binghamton evened the score less than five minutes later when Chris Wideman unleashed a slapshot from the top of the faceoff circle that beat the Crunch's Kristers Gudlevskis for his 15th goal of the season. Syracuse outshot Binghamton 13-8 in the opening 20 minutes of play, but the teams skated to the first intermission tied 1-1.
The B-Sens outshot the Crunch 17-7 over the second period while managing to take a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal from Aaron Johnson. With Joey Mormina sitting for high sticking, Shane Prince sent a shot towards Gudlevskis who made the initial save. Carter Camper took the rebound and found Johnson open in the slot who then converted for his fifth goal of the season to give the hosts the one-goal lead going into the final period.
Despite being outshot 20-9 over the final period, Binghamton added to their lead on a shorthanded tally from Cole Schneider before Derek Grant redirected a shot from Patrick Mullen past Gudlevskis while on the power play to push the score to 4-1. Following a match penalty on Johnson for an illegal check to the head, the Crunch found themselves with a three-minute major power play. Richard potted a power-play goal with less than two minutes to play, but Mannino stood tall the rest of the way to hang on for a 4-2 win.
Derek Grant finished with a goal and an assist while Mullen chipped in two assists to lead the B-Sens offensively. Gudlevskis allowed four goals on 34 shots faced in the losing effort.
