Jackson, MS; July 11, 2005 - The Jackson Senators of the Central Baseball League (CBL) announced today they have signed infielder Edgar Tovar to their roster. Tovar will be in uniform tonight as the Senators open a six-game homestand against the Ft. Worth Cats and Shreveport Sports.
Tovar, who resides in West Palm Beach, FL, originally signed as non-drafted free agent with the Montreal Expos in 1992 and spent five seasons in their minor league system. He spent the last nine-plus seasons in the independent leagues, with the exception of the 2003 season in which he played for Nettuno Rome in the Italian League. The 15-year pro has compiled a lifetime batting average of .278 with 1,240 hits including 160 doubles, 65 home runs and 479 RBI.
The Jackson Senators are part of the Central Baseball League, an independent league of eight professional baseball teams located throughout four southern states. The league is preparing for its twelfth season this summer with teams located in Edinburg, El Paso, Ft. Worth, Robstown, and San Angelo, Texas; Shreveport, Louisiana; Pensacola, Florida; and Jackson, Mississippi. The CBL will play a 94-game schedule between May and August 2005.
