
Sports defeat Pelicans despite delay

Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
The Shreveport Sports salvaged the final game of the three game series with Pensacola by defeating the Pelicans 5-1 at Fair Grounds Field Tuesday. The start of the game was delayed one hour and ten minutes because of rain.
Shreveport scored two runs in the second inning as Jose Rivas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then Mike Willis walked with the bases loaded to force in another run.
The Sports made it 3-0 in the third when Chad Gambill scored on a double play ground ball and Shreveport increased their lead to 4-0 in the sixth when Jason Torres scored on a balk.
Eric Wikstrom started and pitched six inning of scoreless ball to earn his third win of the season.
The Sports finished the home stand winning five of seven games. Shreveport will have an off day Wednesday before heading to Jackson to start a four-game series on Thursday. The Sports won't return home until July 24th when they open a seven-game home stand
