Second Women's World Cup Watch Party Hosted by Pro Iowa, Menace
August 7, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pro Iowa News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - Pro Iowa, the initiative to bring professional soccer to Iowa, and the Des Moines Menace invite Iowans to attend their second FIFA Women's World Cup watch party. Just as the World Cup brings together the soccer community around the globe, Pro Iowa and the Des Moines Menace plan to unite central Iowa communities by hosting World Cup watch parties.
This is the second of the family-friendly watch parties for the Women's World Cup, and Pro Iowa and the Menace are thrilled to host an event at Big Grove Brewery, located at 555 17th St. in Des Moines on Aug. 10 beginning at 7 p.m for the match between Spain and the Netherlands.
While the U.S. women's national team (USWNT) did not advance, we encourage soccer fans to come out to celebrate the team and their participation in the World Cup while enjoying live music, giveaways, free drinks and an exciting quarter-final match between two other international teams.
Watch Party festivities will begin at Big Grove at 7 p.m. with the first 250 guests in attendance receiving a USWNT-inspired T-shirt and a free drink. There will also be USWNT jersey giveaways throughout the evening. Iowa native Eleanor Grace will be performing live music from 7 to 8 p.m. The quarter-final match will be played throughout Big Grove at 8 p.m.
Fans planning on attending the watch party are encouraged to register in advance. The watch parties are free to the public to attend, and seating is first come, first serve. Sitting and standing room will be available both inside Big Grove and on the patio. Limited parking is available on the north side of the building, along with street parking.
"We can't thank Big Grove Brewery enough for being a great partner as we look to pair Iowan's love for soccer with their love for the Des Moines community and its local establishments," said Kyle Davy, director of revenue for Pro Iowa. "We had more than 250 attendees at the first Women's World Cup watch party July 26, and we're glad to see Iowans connect and more soccer advocates develop."
These events are made possible thanks to a generous Prairie Meadows Community Betterment Grant.
