Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
PETERBOROUGH, ON â A strong 2nd period powered the Toronto St. Michael's Majors to a 5-3 victory in Peterborough this evening. Cory Vitarelli haunted his hometown team with 1 goal and 1 assist and newcomer John Adams nicely complimented the Rand-Vitarelli pairing.
Jamie Tardif got the Petes on the board early, only 1:34 into the game, when he struck on the power-play. The assists went to Mark Flood and Liam Reddox. The Majors tied things up at 6:18 when Darryl Boyce connected off of Jamie Vanderveeken and Scott Lehman feeds. However, the Petes went back ahead with 6 seconds to go in the opening frame, when Tardif tickled the twine again on the man-advantage. This time, the helpers were credited to Reddox and Trevor Hendrixx.
The 2nd period was owned by the Majors. They connected three times between 8:43 and 9:13 and outshot the Petes 19-6 in the frame. The goals came from Vitarelli, Rand and Halischuk and the assists went to Adams, Vitarelli, Boyce, Vanderveeken, Cal Clutterbuck and Travis Elder. The Majors then made it a 5-2 game midway through the 3rd period when Adams tipped home a power-play point shot from Chris Cunningham. Tyler Haskins drew the other assist. Mike Montgomery provided the game's final offence for the Petes at 13:58 with the assists getting credited to Flood and Jadran Beljo. However, it was too little, too late for the home squad.
The Majors ended up winning the shot battle by a 41-33 count. Justin Peters earned the win in net for Toronto while Eero Kilpelainin took the loss for Peterborough. The game's three stars were Vitarelli (1st), Tardif (2nd) and Peters (3rd).
The Majors will return home to host the Brampton Battalion tomorrow evening (Friday, October 29th) at 7:30 pm before finishing off the weekend by entertaining the Barrie Colts on Sunday afternoon (October 31st) at 2:00 pm.
