Second Boards for Change Auction Kicks off Black History Month Observation
February 1, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Sacramento Republic FC News Release
The next phase of Republic FC's partnership with Boards For Change - the collaborative community beautification project with a purpose created in direct response to demonstrations in 2020 - is set to begin today, with a new auction and art exposition.
During the 2020 season, Republic FC turned the stands left empty by the pandemic into an art gallery and auction ground. Over 40 original works created as a result of boards covering up business windows, were placed in the stands and made available through an auction to help raise funds for local organizations that support Black youth. Nineteen selections were sold and helped contribute to the over $21,000 raised and directly distributed to local organizations.
Bidding on 17 selections is now open at SacRepublicFC.com/change.
New works, including custom created Air Force 1s, and other mixed media selections are now available. The proceed once again will benefit local Black youth, through grants directly provided by Boards For Change.
As part of the club's Black History Month plans, the section auction will launch today, Monday February 1. Throughout the month, the team will showcase various selections from the Boards For Change project at its Midtown Headquarters in the Team Store. Fans and art lovers are welcome to see the creations up close every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in February from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (1050 20th Street, Suite 200; Sacramento, CA) Physical distancing guidance will be observed, and all guests must wear a mask.
The first group of $1,000 grants have been distributed to local groups including Project Optimism, INC., United College Auction Network, Sacramento Area Youth Speaks, Square Root Academy, Architects of Hope, Improve Your Tomorrow, The Arik Armstead Academic Project, JUMA, Studio T Arts & Entertainment, Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum, Sisters of Nia, St. HOPE, Hawk Institute, and more. These organizations, with more to be added, will provide insight and guidance as part of a new diversity and racial justice coalition with Republic FC.
