Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers announced today the second annual Pooch Party, benefiting the Humane Society of Charlotte, on Sunday, Mar. 27 at 5 p.m. when the Checkers take on the Norfolk Admirals.

Fans can bring their four-legged companions to enjoy an afternoon filled with dog-themed videos, concourse demonstrations and hockey.

Last year's inaugural event raised more than $2,100 for the Humane Society of Charlotte and attracted more than 300 dogs.

Back by popular demand is the infamous "Weiner Dog Race" where Dachshunds will race on the ice during an intermission. Fans can enter their Dachshund for inclusion in the race by submitting a picture and 'race name' to socialnet@gocheckers.com.

There will also be giveaways, including 'doggy bags' containing U.S. National Whitewater Center leashes, CrazyCritters toys, courtesy of TeleBrands, and a Frisbee giveaway as fans exit.

Fundraising tickets are $15, with $6 going back to the HSC, and can be purchased at the Humane Society of Charlotte shelter or at www.gocheckers.com/poochparty.

For more information, call 704-342-4423 or visit www.gocheckers.com/poochparty.

The Checkers (39-25-2-6) will go on the road to play Connecticut and Portland on Friday and Saturday before returning to Time Warner Cable Arena for a 5 p.m. meeting with the Norfolk Admirals on Sunday.

For every 'like' the Checkers get on their Facebook page between now and Apr. 1, the team will donate $2 to Zach Bennett and his family, who plan to move to Charlotte for better medical care and to be closer to the team. Visit www.gocheckers.com or head to www.facebook.com/charlottecheckers.
