Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves opened a three-game series in walkoff fashion as they took down the New Britain Rock Cats 5-4 on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The Cats jumped ahead in the second against Erie starter Austin Kubitza. Ryan Casteel led off with a double and moved to third on a Will Swanner base hit. With one out, Casteel scored on a Zach Osborne squeeze bunt for a 1-0 lead.

Erie tied the game in the last of the third when Connor Harrell clobbered a solo home run to center, his seventh, off of Rock Cats starter Matt Flemer. Harrell has hit three home runs in the last six games.

The Cats broke the tie in the sixth. Jordan Patterson led off, walked and stole second. With one out, Swanner doubled home Patterson for a 2-1 lead. New Britain would go on to score two more in the inning for a three-run advantage.

Erie got one right back in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, JaCoby Jones walked and moved into scoring position on a Jason Krizan single. Dean Green singled home Jones making it 4-2.

Trailing by a pair heading into the bottom of the ninth, the SeaWolves mounted a comeback against Rock Cats reliever Carlos Estevez. Austin Green and Harrell each singled to start the inning, putting the tying run on base. The runners advanced to second on a wild pitch with Harold Castro batting. Estevez retired Castro and Erie then turned to pinch-hitter Dominic Ficociello. Ficociello went after the first pitch and doubled down the right field line, plating a pair, tying the game. Wynton Bernard followed and laced game-winning RBI single to left-center. The knock for Bernard was his third hit of the night.

Kubitza took the no-decision allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

Warwick Saupold (5-6) earned the win in relief. He tossed 3.2 scoreless frames, allowing a hit with two walks and three strikeouts. Saupold has not allowed run in his last three relief appearances and has allowed one run or fewer in his last seven.
