SeaWolves Lose Late Lead in Game Two

The SeaWolves could not hold onto a late lead in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, as they fell to the Altoona Curve 4-2 at PNG Field.

The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the second against Curve starter Cam Vieaux. Dominic Ficociello led off with a base hit and stole second. He scored on a Danny Woodrow base knock for a 1-0 lead. The hit for Woodrow marked his third straight game with an RBI single.

Erie spot starter Christian Binford was excellent in his first start for the 'Wolves. He hurled four scoreless frames, allowing four hits with a walk and five strikeouts in a no-decision.

The SeaWolves extended their lead in the top of the sixth as Willi Castro belted his seventh home run and second with Erie. The solo blast with two outs put the 'Wolves ahead 2-0. Castro has now hit safely in 10 of the 11 games he has played since coming over in the trade with Cleveland.

Things fell apart for Erie in the last of the sixth inning. Sandy Baez got into a jam in the fifth but could not work out of one in the sixth. Jordan George led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Baez then walked Logan Hill. Arden Pabst attempted to sacrifice the runners over but on a Josh Lester error at third, all three runners were safe, loading the bases with no outs. Erie then summoned Kurt Spomer to come into the bases-loaded situation. Spomer hit Logan Ratledge, plating George to make it 2-1. With one out, Cole Tucker hit a bases-clearing triple, giving the Curve their first lead of the game at 4-2.

Reliever Tate Scioneaux worked a scoreless seventh to earn his seventh save, completing the comeback win for Altoona.

Vieaux (8-3) earned the win for the Curve allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

Baez (1-8) took the loss for Erie allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits with a walk and no strikeouts in an inning of relief.
