Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Harrisburg Senators downed the Trenton Thunder 9-1 Saturday night at FNB Field. The Senators offense broke out for 14 hits en route to evening the series.
Drew Ward gave the Senators the lead with a run in the second on an RBI single to score Taylor Gushue, who reached on a double.
After Trenton tied the game in the top of the third, the Senators retook the lead in the bottom of the frame. Following a leadoff double by Osvaldo Abreu, Dan Gamache drove him home with an RBI single to center. One batter later, Alec Keller lined a single to center to put the Senators ahead 3-1.
The Senators tacked on another run in the fourth when Zach Collier plated Drew Ward with a double down the right field line.
Harrisburg blew the game open with four runs in the seventh. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, Jake Noll hit a ground ball to shortstop. The Thunder recorded the force out at second, however the shortstop Wendell Rijo's throw to first, in an attempt to get a double play, skipped into the first base stands which allowed a run to score and Noll to reach second. The next batter, Keller, doubled down the right field line to score Noll. Two more runs scored in the inning when Collier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Abreu knocked a sacrfice fly to expand the lead to 8-1.
The Senators scored their final run in the top of the eighth on a run-scoring double play to make it 9-1 which would be the final score.
Senators starting pitcher Sterling Sharp (9-5) limited the Thunder to a run on just three hits while striking out five and walking four across six innings.
Trenton starter Jordan Foley (2-4) allowed three runs on seven hits in three innings.
Dan Gamache led the Senators with three hits as all nine Senators batters finished with at least one hit.
The Senators and Thunder play the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday afternoon. Logan Darnell takes the bump for the Senators while Trenton counters with starter Adonis Rosa. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at FNB Field. The game can be heard on CBS Sports Harrisburg 96.5 & 95.3 FM and 1400 AM or at www.cbssportsharrisburg.com beginning at 1:15 p.m.
