Seawolves Advance to the Top of the West After Win against RFCLA

April 15, 2024 - Major League Rugby (MLR)
Seattle Seawolves News Release

Seattle embarked on a riveting journey to face MLR newcomers RFCLA on Sunday, April 14th, at 3 PM PT.

Formerly known as Rugby ATL, RFCLA underwent a transformative journey from its Atlanta roots, marked by shifts in ownership, eventually finding stability under the esteemed leadership of Co-Founder and CEO, Pete Sickle, who also holds the helm at Tel Aviv Heat Rugby.

Seattle's expedition to Los Angeles was not without its challenges, notably missing key figures from its roster. Cameron Orr, a stalwart at #1, and the prolific Mack Mason, commanding the #10 spot after consistent performances leading the league in points scored, were sidelined due to injury.

The match commenced with Seattle asserting its dominance, swiftly notching up the first points with a precision penalty kick, followed by a compelling try, the conversion kick adding to their tally, propelling the Seawolves to a commanding 10-0 lead within the opening 30 minutes.

In the absence of Mack Mason, Sam Windsor assumed the pivotal role at #10, delivering a masterful performance, contributing an impressive 14 out of a potential 16 points.

At halftime, the Seawolves held a commanding 17-0 lead, courtesy of two tries, two conversions, and a penalty kick.

The second half saw RFCLA making a breakthrough with the first try, narrowing the gap to 17-5.

Undeterred, the Seawolves seized control, capitalizing on RFCLA's disadvantage following a yellow card, adding two more tries to their tally, securing a commanding 29-5 lead, with the fourth try earning them a valuable bonus point.

A moment of sheer brilliance unfolded as Toni Pulu intercepted a pass, culminating in a sensational try beneath the uprights, securing an automatic 7 points in the 81st minute.

With Houston faltering against New England, Seattle's triumph catapulted them to the summit of the western conference leaderboard.

Returning home triumphant, the Seawolves stand tall as the sole victor among Seattle's major league sports teams this weekend, as the Kraken, Mariners, and Reign FC all tasted defeat.

As they regroup for their next challenge, a showdown awaits on the east coast against the Eastern conference frontrunners, the New England Free Jacks, slated for Saturday, April 20th, at 11 AM PT. Fans can catch the action live on Fox 13+ or The Rugby Network streaming service, with complimentary signup or better yet join us at our next lively viewing party at Trenchers Kitchen and Tap in Renton.

With a record of 6-1-0, Seattle's ascent continues.
