Seattle Reign FC Signs Swedish Midfielder Antonia Göransson

SEATTLE (November 25, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC announced today that the club has signed Swedish midfielder Antonia Göransson. Göransson will join Reign FC prior to the start of the 2016 season, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"I am very happy to play for Seattle Reign next season. They are an extremely good team with great players in a professional surrounding, where I am looking forward to taking the next step in my development," said Göransson of her signing. "To play in the NWSL will be a new thrilling challenge for me."

Göransson, 25, most recently played with Vittsjö GIK of the Swedish Damallsvenskan. A product of Malmö FF's youth system, Göransson began her Damallsvenskan career with Kristianstads DFF where she scored five goals in 19 matches and earned herself the Swedish Football Association's Rookie of the Year award in 2009.

"Antonia is someone that I have been watching for a while and I think has huge potential to make an impact in this league" said general manager and head coach Laura Harvey. "She can play in a variety of positions including left back and midfield which are areas we need to strengthen for the coming season. Her versatility and technical ability are areas that I think will allow her to excel over here."

In 2010 Göransson played 16 matches and scored three goals for Kristianstads before accepting an offer from SV Hamburg in August of that year. Göransson performed well in 2010-11, her first season in the Frauen-Bundesliga, scoring six goals in her 17 appearances.

Göoransson signed with Turbine Potsdam in 2011 scoring 13 goals in 54 matches between 2011-14 before returning to Sweden to join Vittsjö GIK, where she scored three goals in 15 appearances.

After making her debut for the Sweden women's national football team in October 2010, Göransson represented her country at the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup, the 2012 London Olympics and the 2013 UEFA Women's Championship.
