Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels first-ever Toys for Tots Holiday Party was a great success at The Diamond on Saturday, as Flying Squirrels' fans generously donated new, unwrapped toys to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign. Fans ensured a happy holidays for local kids by stuffing more than eight donation bins to the brim with toys during the four-hour party.

Attendees were rewarded for their selflessness as the Flying Squirrels raffled off 20 one-of-a-kind ballpark experiences, such as being named batboy/girl for a game, during their inaugural 2010 season in Richmond. The party was also highlighted by the presence of both Santa Claus and "Parney the Elf," who mingled with fans and were available for holiday photo opportunities.

"We have been delighted by the continual giving nature of this community," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney the Elf" Parnell. "We feel extremely blessed to be in the position of making sure the holidays are happy for as many people as possible. The Toys for Tots campaign is a wonderful annual effort, and we're thrilled to have been a part of it in a fun way."

The Flying Squirrels first Season of Giving has also included partnership with the Puritan Cleaners Coats for Kids Drive. During the Coats for Kids Ballpark Warming Party, the team was able to aid the drive by collecting more than 500 coats. Additionally, the team has established a unique program where the club will donate 10% of daily sales throughout the month of December from the club's new "Squirrels Nest" merchandise store to over 20 different organizations and charities in the Richmond Metro area. The program began on December 2nd, and will run through Wednesday, December 23rd.

"Each of our philanthropic efforts has been very well received during our Season of Giving, and we couldn't be happier with the results," added Parnell. "However, we know this is just the beginning of our community campaign which will be a 12-month effort each and every year."
