Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel forward Sean Farrell has been named United States Hockey League Forward of the Week for the first time in his USHL career, the league announced Tuesday.
Farrell, a Harvard University-bound forward, became the all-time leader in assists in Steel franchise history during an 8-7 overtime victory against the Des Moines Buccaneers on Friday, Feb. 26 with a five-point game (1G, 4A), matching a career best for points in a single game.
After his second helper of the contest, Farrell stood alone with 84 assists in his Chicago career which began at the start of the 2019-2020 season.
The 5-foot-10, 177 pound forward added his 18th multi-point game of the season the following night with a marker and a pair of assists in a 7-6 overtime loss against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Saturday.
"Sean has been great for us all season and has shown that he is an elite player in the league with his consistent play on both sides of the puck," said Steel Head Coach Brock Sheahan. "Sean continues to get better and better and it is always nice to see a player get recognized for the work that he puts in day to day. We are so fortunate to have a player and person of Sean's caliber as a part of our organization."
After the eight-point weekend (2G, 6A), Farrell has totaled 88 helpers in 78 games played for the Steel. His 123 points (35G, 88A) over his Chicago career share second place with Andrew Miller (Steel 2007-2009) on the all-time Steel points list, just one point shy of matching the franchise record of 124 points, held by Dan Charleston (Steel 2002-2005).
Farrell, the Montreal Canadiens' fourth round selection (#124 Overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, currently leads the USHL with 67 points (20G, 47A) over 34 games played during the 2020-2021 campaign.
Prior to his time in Chicago, Farrell played two USHL seasons with Team USA, appearing in a combined 62 regular season games, registering a total of 13 goals and 26 assists.
Farrell becomes the seventh player on the Chicago roster to earn Player of the Week honors this season. The Steel have been represented in the Player of the Week honors in seven of the 17 weeks of the USHL season thus far.
