Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
Biloxi, MSâ Mississippi Sea Wolves general manager and coach Bob Woods announced the signings of free agent defenseman Mike Jarmuth (JAHR-muhth) and center Tristan Lush (TRIHS-tahn, LUHSH).
Jarmuth, 22, played four seasons at Western Michigan of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in Kalamazoo from 2000-04. The 6-foot and 205-pound Jarmuth collected a four-year total of 13 goals, 56 assists, 69 points and 78 penalty minutes in 143 games. After completing last season at Western Michigan, Jarmuth appeared in 13 games with Kalamazoo of the United Hockey League, registering three assists.
Lush, 23, played four years at Clarkson University from 2000-04 in Potsdam, New York of the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Last season, the 6-foot-1 and 210-pound Lush served as Clarkson's co-captain and was honored with Coaches' Award for teamwork, hustle and dedication. Lush appeared in a Clarkson University career record 148 games. He also amassed a career total of 25 goals, 49 assists, 74 points and 54 penalty minutes with Clarkson.
"It's always been my dream to play professional hockey," said Jarmuth. "To have the opportunity to play again with former college teammates (Anthony Battaglia, Lucas Drake and Austin Miller at Western Michigan) makes it that much more exciting. Late last season, I played with Kalamazoo of the United Hockey League and I think that will help me make the transition to the ECHL level."
"I am really excited to sign my first professional contract with Mississippi," said Lush. "I consider myself to be a solid two-way player that takes pride in the defensive zone. I played defense for half of last season at Clarkson and learned a lot about being disciplined. I'm looking forward to being part of the Sea Wolves."
"I have heard a lot of great things about both players," said Woods. "I think both guys can come in and make an impact. Jarmuth is a solid defenseman that likes to join the play, while Lush has good size, leadership and ability to play at both ends of the ice. We're trying to bring some youth back into our organization and these guys are positive steps in that direction."
The signing of Jarmuth and Lush bring Mississippi's team total to 10 for the 2004-05 season. Other Sea Wolves under contract include forwards Louis Dumont, Anthony Battaglia, Lucas Drake and Nicolas Corbeil, defensemen Mike Martone, Milt Mastad and Austin Miller and goaltender Randy Hevey.
The Sea Wolves drop the puck on their ninth ECHL season on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
