Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine - Justin Haley spun seven innings of one-run ball and the Sea Dogs (18-32) defeated the Hartford Yard Goats (30-19) 8-6 on Memorial Day at Hadlock Field to split the series 2-2.

Portland got off to a hot start - Henry Ramos led off the bottom of the first inning with a triple on the first pitch he saw, then Ryan Court singled up the middle to score Ramos and make it 1-0. Jake Romanski hit an RBI single later in the frame to make it 2-0 after one. The Sea Dogs scored twice in the second thanks to two Yard Goats errors to extend the lead to 4-0.

Justin Haley (W, 4-3) was outstanding in his 10th start of the year. Haley allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings, walking one and striking out five.

The Sea Dogs set a season-high with 15 hits. Ramos and Court each finished with three hits in the game, Tim Roberson had a pair of doubles, and Tzu-Wei Lin was 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in the sixth.

Zach Jemiola (L, 4-2) allowed eight runs (four earned) on 12 hits in 5+ innings, walking one and striking out one.

The Yard Goats didn't go quietly, however, and scored five runs in the eighth inning off of Jake Drehoff, who was making his Double-A debut. Pat Valaika clubbed a two-run homer that hooked inside of the left field foul pole, while Dillon Thomas had a two-run double and Correlle Prime a two-out RBI double as well.

Nik Turley entered in relief for Portland with a runner on base in the seventh and stayed in to close out the game and earn his second save. Turley retired all four batters he faced and struck out two.

The Sea Dogs' homestand continues as the first place Reading Fightin Phils visit Hadlock Field for a three-game series beginning tomorrow night. Ty Buttrey (0-6, 5.85) is the scheduled starter for Portland while John Richy (1-1, 5.84) is set to go for Reading. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Sea Dogs ticket office, by phone at 879-9500, or online at seadogs.com.
