Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
State College, PA- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell on Tuesday night in State College, 12-5 to extend their losing streak to 7 games. In a game that they led two different times, the Scrappers were unable to hold on and were swept for the second consecutive series.
The offense got started early on Tuesday night. Claudio Bautista singled with 1 out and moved to 3rd on Juan Herrera's triple. Both runners would score on a wild pitch when Spikes' catcher Luke Voit threw the ball away trying to retire Bautista at the plate.
The Scrappers saw their lead disappear in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Ronald Castillo and Voit hit consecutive pitches for back to back homeruns.
Trailing by 2 runs in the top of the 5th inning, the Scrappers took the lead back. Nellie Rodriguez singled home Bautista who had walked to start the inning. Robel Garcia then singled home Herrera, who had walked as well, and Rodriguez for the 5-4 lead.
The lead was short lived as with 2 outs in the bottom of the inning, Castillo drilled a 2 out 2 run triple to grab the lead back for good for State College. The Spikes would then blow the game open in the 7th when they sent 11 batters to the plate on the way to a 6 run inning.
