CT Tigers Avoid Sweep

Staten Island, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (7-15) defeated the Staten Island Yankees (11-10) by a score of 7-5 Tuesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The CT Tigers trailed 5-2 entering the seventh inning and used a four run inning to take a 6-5. The seventh inning was highlighted by DH Duncan McAlpine's (3-4) RBI single that scored 3B Brett Harrison (1-5) to take a 6-5 lead.

The Tigers were trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning and scored two runs highlighted by an RBI double by 1B Ben Verlander that scored RF Raph Rhymes to cut the lead 3-1. McAlpine performed well with three hits and two RBI's in four at bats.

The Yankees hit a pair of homeruns in the game. A three run homerun in the fourth inning by C Isaias Tejada (2-3) gave S.I. a 3-0 lead. In the sixth inning CF Brandon Thomas hit a solo homerun. The Yankees struggled going 2-10 with runners in scoring position and left nine men on base.

The CT Tigers start a six game homestand starting tomorrow with a three game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters at 7:05 p.m. In game one of the series Connecticut LHP Alex Phillips (1-0, 1.40) is slated to face off against Williamsport RHP Shane Martin (1-1, 4.00).
