
Scrappers Shutout by Lakemonsters

Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
(Niles, OH)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers stranded nine runners on base and were shutout 7-0 by the Vermont Lakemonsters. With the loss the Scrappers have now dropped all seven series they have played this season.
Vermont would jump out to the early lead in the top of the second inning. Eric Marinez would connect on a one out solo homerun to rightfield to put Vermont up 1-0.
The Lakemonsters would break the game open in the sixth and seventh innings.
In the top of the sixth inning with one out, Jesus Lopez and Miguel Mercedes would both walk. Jhonny Rodriguez would follow with a single to load the bases. Marinez would then deliver again with an RBI fielder's choice to score Lopez for a 2-0 lead. Sean Murphy followed with a two run single to push the Vermont lead out to 4-0.
Vermont would pull away in the seventh. Luke Persico and Luis Barrera singled to start the inning. Lopez would then single to drive in Persico. After a walk to Mercedes loaded the bases, Rodriguez would bring Barrera home with a sacrifice fly. Marinez would again deliver with another RBI fielder's choice to push the score out to the final of 7-0.
Mahoning Valley would put runners into scoring positon in four of the first eight innings but were unable to bring in a run, stranding a total of nine runners on base.
Luis Jimenez (0-3) started and was outstanding for 5.0 innings. He allowed just three hits and the one earned run. Jimenez did not walk a batter and struck out three. Dace Kime would then go 1.0 inning in relief and faced three batters in the seventh inning without recording an out. He allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits. Kime walked two and did not record a strikeout. Ryan Colegate and Ryan Perez would combine for three more scoreless innings of relief.
The Scrappers (4-15) and Lakemonsters (10-9) will conclude their three game series on Wednesday night at 7:05pm. 2016 third round draft pick Aaron Civale will get the start for Mahoning Valley. Wednesday night will also be Ohio State night with an appearance by Brutus the Buckeye. Tickets are available online or by calling the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000.
