Scrappers on search for host families

Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

The Scrappers are looking for personable, reliable and trustworthy families to host the 2007 Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Many players are far from home and miss the joys of family life. As a host family, you will share your home with a Scrappers player from mid June through mid September. With only 38 home games, practice and other obligations the players have, their time actually being in your home is minimal. They are low maintenance due to their hectic schedule. To ensure that every player is assigned a family with similar interests, each potential host family and player is asked to fill out a questionnaire. If you are chosen to be a host family for the 2007 season, you will be contacted at a later date to discuss the specifics of the program.

"....Hosting is easy because the players are not home that much. They have a grueling schedule. My husband and I have really enjoyed helping these young men. Please consider housing a Scrappers player this summer. It's easy, fun and who knows... someday you may get to watch him at Jacobs Field". ~Karen Conklin and Gary Offerdahl

"My husband and I have been host parents since 2001 and we live baseball from June until September. We have had some wonderful young men living in our home, from Devon Rogers and Jonathan Van Every to Brent Thomas. It's great going to spring training in Winter Haven and seeing a lot of the "boys" that we know. We can't wait until June"! ~ Denise Abell

"Being a 'Host Parent' has been so rewarding! We should have done it YEARS ago! The last two years have been so much FUN! Having 'our' boys each summer is a treat!

We have been involved with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers since the very beginning. Now after 8 years of baseball here in Niles, we see the fruits of our Valley in full blossom. 'Our' young men now playing ball at the 'Jake,' following their dreams to become a Major League ball player. It is so GREAT when we do get to see games on TV or at Jacobs Field to see a former Scrapper playing". ~Gail and Terry Drushel
