Rochester Knighthawks News Release
The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have activated defenseman Scott Self from the physically unable to perform list. Self will join the Knighthawks in Calgary on Saturday as they take on the Roughnecks.
"I'm very excited (to be back)," he said. "We've had a couple of great practices and I feel ready to contribute."
The Peterborough, Ontario native is in his 16th season in the NLL and fourth with the Knighthawks. Last season, he tied his career high with 18 games played, as he posted five points and 53 loose balls. Head coach Mike Hasen was eager to talk about the return of one of his standout defensemen.
"I am looking forward to his return," he said. "He is a steady presence back there for us. He gives 100 percent effort all of the time."
Self arrived in Rochester after a trade deadline deal with Buffalo in March of 2013. After being reunited with his youngest brother, Brad, he won his first Champion's Cup two months later. Scott followed that up with a career season in which he collected 106 loose balls and won his second straight title.
In his NLL career, the 35-year-old defenseman has made stops in Minnesota, Ottawa, Arizona, New York, Chicago, Edmonton, Buffalo and Rochester. He has appeared in 225 games, notching 46 goals, 135 assists and 1,099 loose balls. He also played in three NLL All-Star Games (2006, 2008 and 2012).
Self rejoins a Knighthawks team (3-4) that enters the week tied for third place in the East Division. Rochester is within striking distance of the top spot in the division, trailing New England by just two games. Rochester is back in action on Saturday, March 5th, as it battles the Calgary Roughnecks at 9:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Self is back in time to jump right into the lineup as the Knighthawks approach the halfway point of the season.
"The thing I missed the most is competing with my teammates," said Self. "I love
playing lacrosse and I'm really looking forward to getting back on the turf."
In related moves, the Knighthawks placed forward Mark Cockerton on the practice squad and released forward Ty Thompson.
