Scorpions Ride Reeder To Shoot Down Bucks

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Sometimes stories write themselves and that's what happened Wednesday night inside the Santa Ana Star Center. Konrad Reeder returned to the ice for the first time since December 15th and picked up a goal and an assist in the Scorpions 4-1 victory over Laredo.

In the second period Reeder gave the Scorpions the game's first goal. Ryan McLeod dumped the puck into the zone where it hit a partition and squirted in front of the net. Reeder was in the right place at the right time and put the puck into the open net.

Laredo came out in the third period and tied the game when Jeff Bes' pass was deflected by Lance Herauf into the Scorpions' net. The Scorpions trailed for the first time, but it wouldn't last long.

Less than a minute later, New Mexico reclaimed the lead for good when Ryan McLeod banked a shot off the Bucks' goalie and into the net. Reeder picked up the assist as did Jamie Herrington who won the original draw.

The hottest player in the Central Hockey League has been Craig Macdonald. With the Scorpions on the power play, Macdonald picked up his ninth goal in the last nine games, pushing the lead to three. Mike Prpich added a late insurance goal to finish the scoring.

The Scorpions head to Texas for the start of the three-game road trip. Friday, New Mexico will face Odessa at 6 p.m. Saturday, the Scorpions will make their first trip to Lubbock for a 6:05 p.m. match up with the Cotton Kings. Both games can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal.
