Scorpions Revise Schedule and More Free Baseball
August 4, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release
The Yuma Scorpions of the Golden Baseball League today announced a revision to their home schedule in August that will result in more free baseball for fans in Yuma and the Imperial valley.
The Tijuana Cimarrones will also complete their home schedule at the Ray Kroc Sports Complex and all of their remaining games will be played with no admission charge. Fans are encouraged to bring lawnchairs so they can locate shaded seating areas.
The next night of free baseball is Thursday, August 5 with the Scorpions acting as visitors in a 6 pm doubleheader against the Cimarrones.
The Scorpions lineup now features a couple of familiar faces. Infielder Ruben Sanchez and catcher Bubba Garcia have rejoined the team they helped to a 13-3 start in May and June. As well, former Scorpions field manager Benny Castillo returns to act as bench coach for field manager Darryl Brinkley.
Groundskeeper Gets Second Start
In addition, Desert Sun Stadium groundskeeper Hector Corella will make his first start for the Scorpions on Friday night at 7 pm against Tijuana. The 42-year old right handed pitcher will wear the home town uniform for the first time as he faces the Cimarrones in front of family and friends on the field he normally grooms for games. Corella pitched well enough for Tijuana in his debut against the Orange County Flyers last week to warrant a trade to Yuma and the opportunity of a lifetime under the lights at Desert Sun.
Saturday's Start time changed to 6 pm - Sunday also
The Scorpions will play a Saturday night game against Tijuana at 6 pm at Desert Sun Stadium. That game is sponsored by Crossroads Mission and the game will be followed by a Faith Night concert in the stadium concourse.
Sunday's contest, originally scheduled for Desert Sun Stadium will instead be played on Field #1 at Ray Kroc Sports Complex. No admission fee will be charged for a doubleheader against Tijuana starting at 6 pm.
The Scorpions then embark on an eight day trip to Hawaii to face Na Ikaika Koa Maui, the team that beat them by .005 percentage points for the first half title in the southern division. After never facing the Strong Warriors of Maui in the first half the Scorpions will play them thirteen times in the final weeks of the season.
