Scoreless Streak Ends in Loss to St. Lucie

JUPITER, FL-The first winning streak of the 2014 season will have to wait for the Jupiter Hammerheads. Matt Koch allowed eight hits in six innings, but he limited to the Hammerheads to just a pair of runs as St. Lucie defeated Jupiter 5-2 on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium.

Entering the game the Hammerheads had not allowed a run in 22 innings. The streak lasted 24 innings before the Mets jumped on Jupiter starter Trevor Williams in the third on Wednesday.

Dilson Herrera led off the frame with a single then Williams walked Brandon Nimmo. Jairo Perez would follow by hitting a Texas Leaguer that fell in front of the right fielder Cameron Flynn. Herrera scored on the play adn when Flynn bobbled the ball both runners advanced into scoring position.

Nimmo would later score on a groundout and Cam Maron would cap the scoring in the inning when he sliced a double down the left field line that plated Perez.

The score would remain 3-0 until the fifth when Nimmo led off with a single and later scored when Aderlin Rodriguez grounded into a double play.

In the bottom half of the inning the Hammerheads would get the run back when Ross Wilson drove home Angel Morales with a single to right field.

Jupiter would continue to chip away in the sixth. With two outs Austin Barnes doubled and scored when Viosergy Rosa followed with a single up the middle.

Rosa finished the evening two-for-three as he continues to swing a hot bat. He is 10-for-15 in his last four games.

The Mets would add a run in the seventh when Maikis De La Cruz doubled to lead off the inning and scored when Herrera singled in the next at bat.

The Hammerheads would bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth, but Beck Wheeler struck out Ryan Goetz and Wilson flied out to end the ballgame.

The rubber match of the series will take place on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
