Schumaker makes major league debut

Former New Jersey Cardinals outfielder, Skip Schumaker (NJC-01) made his major league debut on Wednesday, June 8th, for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Boston Red Sox. In Schumakers first at bat, he pinch hit against Bostons David Wells, and struck out in St. Louiss 4-0 loss.

The Cardinals called up Schumaker from Triple A Memphis, where Schumaker appeared in 58 games hitting .283 with 13 doubles, four home runs and 14 runs batted in. Schumaker was a 5th round pick by St. Louis in the 2001 Free Agent Draft. Schumaker played for New Jersey in 2001 appearing in 49 games hitting .253 with 10 doubles, one triple and 14 RBIs.

Schumaker becomes the 25th former New Jersey Cardinal to be promoted to the Major Leagues.
