June 13, 2005 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

WINOOSKI, VT --- The Vermont Expos will be holding a contest, from June 13th through July 24th, asking their fans to suggest a new name for the franchise to begin using at the end of the 2005 season and the chance for all Vermont fans to win great prizes at the same time, the team announced today.

Vermont is entering its 12th season in the New York-Penn League and was the minor league affiliate of the Montreal Expos for the first 11 seasons. During this past winter, the Montreal Expos moved to Washington D.C. and became the Washington Nationals. The Vermont Expos are beginning the first year of a two-year Player Development agreement with Washington.

"With the move of the Montreal Expos to Washington and the change of nickname to Nationals, we felt the time was right for a change ourselves and come up with a more Vermont-flavored name," Vermont Expos General Manager C.J. Knudsen said.

"As the only professional baseball team in the state of Vermont, we feel that our name should reflect and honor the state in some way," Knudsen added.

Anyone with an idea for a new name can submit their suggestion now until July 24th by filling out a ballot at one of the following locations:

* www.nameyourteam.com
* all Vermont Expos home games
* Pepsi displays in Champlain Farms
* TD Banknorth branches
* Tuesday and Thursday in the Burlington Free Press and at www.burlingtonfreepress.com
* link at www.wcax.com

All entries will be entered into a drawing to win prizes including a trip (airline/hotel/tickets) to see the 2006 Washington Nationals at RFK Stadium, 2006 Season Tickets to Vermont games, Year's supply of Pepsi, tickets to a taping of the David Letterman Show, Major League All-Star Game Baseballs from 1991-2001, membership to the Sports & Fitness Edge, Twin Oakes or Racquet's Edge, gift certificates to the University Mall, a chance to win an R.V. from Ehler's R.V. and much more.

When the contest ends on July 24th, the Vermont Expos organization will look at all of the suggestions and hope to announce a new name at the end of the 2005 season.
