Scholl's Strong Start Sparks Seventh Straight Pacifics Victory

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Christian Scholl allowed just two hits over eight innings as the San Rafael Pacifics won their seventh straight with a 5-0 victory over the East Bay Lumberjacks on Sunday at Albert Park.
Scholl (6-3) got ahead with first-pitch strikes to 23 of the 28 batters he faced and threw just 88 pitches to earn his third straight victory. In those three starts, he has lowered his ERA from 4.84 down to 3.43.
"Right now it's just about throwing first-pitch strikes and getting ahead of guys," said Scholl. "I like to put the pressure on them."
San Rafael's offense ran through Kyle Dhanani, who moved up to the three-hole on Sunday. He walked and later scored on a passed ball to give the Pacifics (43-14) an early 1-0 lead with two outs in the first. In the seventh, again with two outs, the third baseman stole third base and sparked a three-run inning when he scored on Danny Gonzalez's single to center. After catcher Matt Quintero was hit by a pitch, Zack Pace and Price Kendall drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to make it 5-0.
Dhanani went 2-for-4 and raised his batting average to a league-best .332. He has a five-game hitting streak and has now reached base safely in his last 13 games.
"It's easy pitching behind the guys we have. Christian just kept pounding the zone today," said Dhanani. "I just tried to get on base as much as possible and take some bags."
The Pacifics scored their second run of the game on a Kendall double. The second baseman's 55th RBI extended his Pacific Association lead to three over teammate Maikel Jova.
AJ Gallardo pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the team's eighth shutout of the season.
David Russo (0-1) took the loss for the Lumberjacks (2-26).
The Pacifics will host Augtoberfest - Oktoberfest in August - for three games beginning Tuesday, Aug. 6. The Prescott Montezuma Federals of the Freedom League will make their only visit to Albert Park for those three games. Tickets are still available at www.pacificsbaseball.com.
