Schneider, Periard Named All-Star Starters

Two members of the Laredo Bucks have been selected as starters for the Central Hockey League Dodge 2003 All-Star Game to be played in Oklahoma City on Thursday, January 23. Left wing Eric Schneider and defenseman Michel Periard will represent the Bucks in the starting lineup for the Southern Conference All-Star team. The CHL announced the starting lineups today, and the remaining members of the All-Star squads will be announced on January 9.

Eric Schneider, who appeared on 92 percent of the Southern Conference ballots, received more votes than any other player. Schneider has accumulated 19 goals and 25 assists for a total of 44 points in 23 games. Schneider has also recorded one goal in five games with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League. Michel Periard, assigned to Laredo by the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League, leads Southern Conference defensemen with 32 points (9 goals and 23 assists) in 28 games. Periard was recalled this morning by San Antonio.

Chris Grenville, who currently leads the Bucks with 20 goals and is eighth overall in the CHL scoring race, is among the Bucks' candidates to join Schneider and Periard on the Southern Conference All-Star team. Grenville is tied for third in the league in goals scored. Rookie Serge Dube is tied for 11th in scoring among CHL defensemen and goaltender Lance Leslie is 12-7-3 with a 2.89 goals-against average. In addition, CHL Player of the Week Joey Sewell now has 17 goals, placing him among the league's top snipers.

The Bucks play at home twice this weekend: Friday against All-Star Blaz Emersic and the Lubbock Cotton Kings and Saturday against All-Star Scott Hillman and the Southwest Division leaders, the Odessa Jackalopes.
