Sioux Falls, SD - Blake Schmit's solo home run gave the Sioux Falls Canaries a 2-1 walk-off victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats in front of 2,619 at Sioux Falls Stadium Monday night.

Canaries' LHP Joe Bircher and RailCats' RHP Daniel Minor twirled a pitchers' duel at The Birdcage, with both pitchers allowing just one run over eight innings of work.

Bircher allowed one run on six hits over eight innings of work, striking out and walking three, while Minor allowed his run on just three hits while striking out 12.

And whereas Bircher allowed three hits and five base runners over his first five innings of work, Minor took a perfect game into the sixth inning.

The Canaries though, broke up Minor's perfect game, no-hitter and shutout with three hits and a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Tyler Wolfe led off the frame with a single to break up the perfect game and no-hitter, moved to third on Brett Marr's single and scored on Burt Reynolds' single to give the Birds a 1-0 lead.

But the RailCats struck back in the top of the seventh to tie the game at one. Ryan Fitzgerald led off with a double and came around to score on Andy De Jesus' bunt single, as Bircher airmailed the throw to first.

Neither Minor nor Bircher earned a decision though, as the Canaries and RailCats headed to the ninth, tied at one.

James Jones worked a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning against Gary before Schmit's two-out laser over the left field wall gave the Canaries a 2-1 walk-off victory.

Jones picks up the win for the Canaries, who move to 42-51 on the season, while Jorge De Leon takes the loss for the RailCats, who fall to 52-41 on the season.x

The Sioux Falls Canaries continue their four-game set against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Bo Hellquist (2-2, 4.71 ERA) will take the hill for the Canaries facing RailCats' RHP Jake Mathys (0-0, 3.00 ERA).

Tuesday night is Twofer Tuesday, presented by the South Dakota Air National Guard. There will be a special ceremonial first pitch and national anthem prior to Tuesday night's game. Fans will also have a chance to win prizes during the game and learn how you can make a difference and be involved with the SD Air National Guard.
