Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today RiverKings goalie Kevin Schieve has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week. Following is the release sent out by the Central Hockey League.

The Week 18 recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards have been determined following nominations from CHL member clubs. Bossier-Shreveport left winger Cam Abbott is the Oakley CHL Player of the Week, chosen from an outstanding group of candidates this week. Abbott helped the Mudbugs post a 3-0-0 record during the week, scoring six goals and adding three assists in three road victories. Memphis netminder Kevin Schieve is the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week, turning in a pair of quality road wins to help keep the RiverKings atop the Northeast Division as they concluded a stretch of nine consecutive games away from home.

Abbott and twin brother Chris were superb all week in leading Bossier-Shreveport to a pair of wins at Colorado and a single victory at Rocky Mountain. Cam scored both shorthanded and on the power play on Valentine's Day in a come from behind 4-3 win in Colorado, with Chris scoring the game winning goal. The following night in a 6-5 OT victory at Rocky Mountain Cam assisted on three goals, including the game winner by Chris (who also had three assists) just 17 seconds into the extra frame. Cam saved his best for last this week, equaling a CHL season high with four goals (including the winner) at Colorado in a 9-5 win Saturday night. The twins combined for eight goals, 10 assists and all three game winning scores this week.

Playing in just his seventh and eight games of the season for Memphis, Schieve was solid in road victories over both Tulsa and Austin this week to preserve the RiverKings position atop the Northeast Division standings. On February 13th he made 23 saves to pick up his fourth victory of the season in a 4-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers. Saturday evening in Austin he was even better, stopping all but one of 29 Ice Bats shots in a 2-1 win. Schieve and the RiverKings return to home ice this weekend for games against Rocky Mountain and Youngstown, playing in front of their home fans for the first time since a 4-3 win over Wichita on February 1st.
