Schaumburg Wins Series Finale Versus Y'alls

Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, Ky. - In a postseason preview matchup between the two teams set to battle each other in the first round of Frontier League playoffs, the Schaumburg Boomers beat the Florence Y'alls by a score of 13-7 to put an end to the regular season.

The final result had no real meaning for either team. Schaumburg had already secured the Central Division before the weekend series even started, and Florence punched its ticket to the playoffs last night with a win and the Evansville loss to Lake Erie. Nonetheless, the Boomers (51-45) salvaged the series, but the Y'alls still won the regular-season series four games to two.

The lack of significance led to some fun for both teams. Florence used four position players on the mound - Taylor Bryant, Harrison DiNicola, Rodney Tennie, and Connor Crane. Bryant and his knuckleball allowed five earned runs across three innings. Crane struck out the side, and DiNicola was the only Florence hurler to keep Schaumburg off the board with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Pitcher Edgar Martinez pinch hit for the Y'alls and struck out to end the game, and pitcher Alex Wagner played first base for the final inning.

Schaumburg got in on the fun when first baseman Braxton Davidson came in to pitch in the eighth inning and did not allow a run in one 1/3 innings. Quincy Nieporte batted left-handed against Bryant, and pitcher Jake Joyce served as a defensive replacement in left field and struck out looking in his only at-bat.

After combining for only 11 hits in the first two games of the series, the Boomers took out some frustration and took an early 6-0 lead after four innings. The Boomers scored in all but one inning and scored multiple runs in four frames. Schaumburg blasted six home runs, including two apiece for Davidson and Dusty Stroup. Erik Martinez gets the win for the Boomers thanks to six innings and two runs allowed. He walked four and allowed ten hits but struck out ten batters.

Florence had a strong showing at the plate with 15 hits. Axel Johnson, Andres Rios, Bryant, Crane, and DiNicola each had two hits, and Ronnie Allen Jr. cracked his first professional home run.

The regular season is over, the postseason begins Tuesday, and the Boomers and the Y'alls are set to match up again to begin postseason play. Games One and Two on Tuesday and Wednesday will be played in Schaumburg at 6:30p CT. Game Three is on Friday at 7:00p ET. Games Four and Five will be in Florence, if necessary.
