Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE (April 2, 2007)-- A wild weekend in the MISL has given clarity to the playoff picture, if not finality. The Wave qualified for the 14th consecutive season by defeating California 9-6 on Saturday in the Versus network Saturday Soccer Showdown. Philadelphia clinched on Friday by defeating Baltimore with a sixth-attacker goal in the final minute, then Baltimore completed its season-ending collapse on Saturday with a 21-6 loss at Chicago. It was the sixth consecutive loss for the reigning league champs, who will watch the playoffs from home this year. After the Storm concluded the weekend by beating first-place Detroit 18-13 on Sunday, here is where things sit: No. 4 seed Milwaukee will be at home Saturday, April 14 against either Detroit or Chicago. If the Storm - winners of seven consecutive games - beat Milwaukee this Saturday by at least five points, they overtake Detroit for first place and will play the Wave again in the first round of the playoffs. Otherwise, Milwaukee faces Detroit in the first round. The Wave's home game will be at either 3 p.m. or 6 p.m.; if it's at 3 p.m., it means Milwaukee was awarded the Versus network game. If Milwaukee plays Detroit, the two-game series will open in Milwaukee and head to Detroit on Sunday, April 15. If the Wave plays Chicago, the Storm will host the opener on Friday and then come here for Game 2 on Saturday. A tie in either series results in a one-goal, sudden-death "mini-game" to be played immediately following the end of Game 2. Versus also will broadcast the MISL Championship Final from Detroit at 3 p.m. CST. You still can get $10 tickets for the home MISL semifinal game by calling the Wave office at (414) 224-9283.
