
Sasquat'ch pleases its fans in home opening

Montreal, Qc- The Montreal Sasquat'ch allowed their fans to go home happy after winning their home opening 100-97 against the Manchester Millrats, Friday night at the Pierre-Charbonneau Center.
In a thrilling game from start to finish, the home team prevailed in the last minute of play to secure their first win of this young season. Daryl Ruffus led the way offensively with 24 points on a 11-14 shooting night. The big man hit a key bucket and converted the free throw with 33 seconds left to give Montreal a lead they would not relinquish.
LP Levros added an insurance point on another free throw, allowing the fans to start celebrating in franzy the first win in franchise history. In his first outing with the Sasquat'ch, Randy « White Chocolate » Gill scored 8 of his 15 points in the 4th quarter to allow his team to come back in the game and eventually win it in the last minutes of play.
Gill, who literaly drew the crowd in the game in key moments, was very happy with the outcome.
«The atmospher was great, the fans got involved and gave us the energy to get ahead and secure the win, explained Gill after the game. We want our supporters to be proud of their team, we want them to love this squad and we'll certainly do everything possible to please them.»
The win had a sweet taste for the Montrealers who lost to those same Millrats a week before in Green Mountain tip off tournament in Vermont. On the losing side, coach Rob Spon gave credit to the Sasquat'ch players who really came to play.
«They played better than us tonight; they wanted it more than us, stated Spon after the game. They have a very athletic team with excellent shooters and we watched them play in key moments, that's what cost us the victory.»
For Manchester, point guard Al Stewart led the way with 17 points, followed by Desmond Feruson and Sam Carey who each added 14 points in a losing effort.
Jamaal Wise came out big for the Sasquat'ch with a 21 points and 8 rebounds effort. Playing 42 minutes, LP Levros was the emotional outburst for Montreal, drawing the crowd in the game and coming up with three very important steals down the stretch.
