PBL Starts 2009 Season With Televised Games, Weekend Matchups

January 2, 2009 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release

With a dozen basketball squads attempting to prevent the Rochester Razorsharks from winning its second championship, the Premier Basketball League begins its 2009 campaign with nine weekend match ups.

"It's exciting how we've grown since last year," said Dr. Severko Hrywnak, Chairman of the Board of the Premier Basketball League. "The PBL is the only minor league that offers players, coaches and owners the opportunity to be seen on national television. Owners will quickly see how the value of their organization will grow with the exposure teams will get through the deal with @SportsTV." stated Dr. Hrywnak. The PBL season officially begins this Friday, January 2, as the Battle Creek Knights welcome the Chicago Throwbacks to Kellogg Arena.

Also on Friday evening, the Halifax Rainmen travel to Quebec City to face the Kebs, while the Manchester Millrats, winner of the PBL's pre-season Green Mountain Tip-Off, visit the Montreal Sasquat'ch and Randy "White Chocolate" Gill.

Four contests highlight Saturday's schedule, as the Halifax Rainmen continue their road trip with a match up against the Montreal Sasquat'ch, while two of the PBL's Great Lakes franchises, the Mid-Michigan Destroyers and the Detroit Panthers, battle in Detroit. The 2008 PBL champion Rochester Razorsharks open their season on the road, traveling to Georgia for the Augusta Groove's home opener, while the Buffalo Stampede invite the Wilmington Sea Dawgs to the Koessler Center in Buffalo.

Two Sunday games round out the weekend, as the Detroit Panthers welcome the Chicago Throwbacks, while the Manchester Millrats visit Quebec City for an afternoon tilt with the Kebs.

PBL fans are also encouraged to visit the PBL's national television partner, @SPORTSTV (http://www.at-sportstv.com), where team supporters can upload their own personal video clips to cheer on their favorite team and explain why they feel their hometown squad has the talent to claim the 2009 PBL Championship. @SPORTSTV, which will show select PBL games throughout the season, is currently broadcasting the 2008 PBL championship game between the Rochester Razorsharks and the Arkansas Impact, which features a tremendous first quarter backboard-breaking slam by the Sharks.
