Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Durham, NC- The Northern League of Professional Baseball announced today that Adirondack Lumberjack pitcher Derek Santiago has earned the Daktronics Pitcher of the Week award for the week ending June 30. It is the second time this season a Lumberjack pitcher has received this award. Chad Ward was named Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 9.

Santiago, who is in his third season with the Lumberjacks, earned the award after tossing a complete game shutout over the Elmira Pioneers on June 26 at East Field. Derek finished the night throwing nine innings, giving up only three hits, striking out ten Pioneers, and walking none.

"I am very happy that Derek has been recognized. He threw an outstanding game against Elmira, and there is no one who deserved Pitcher of the Week more," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

Santiago is currently 3-2 this season, with a 4.30 ERA in seven games. Derek has struck out 37 in 44 innings pitched, while walking 16.
