Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Indianapolis Ice goaltender Jeff Sanger stopped all 34 shots he faced to
lead the Ice to a 5-0 shutout win over the Fort Worth Brahmas on Saturday
night in Indianapolis.
Sanger was perfect in net for the Ice en route to earning in his fourth
shutout of the season. He received all the offensive support that he
would need in a stretch of 1:35 late in the first period. Ice right wing
Jared Dumba opened the scoring in the game when he beat Fort Worth
goaltender Tyler Nilsson at the 17:05 mark of the first. Just 25 seconds
after Dumba's goal, Indy forward Jim Shepherd fired another goal past
Nilsson. Nilsson was then replaced in the Brahmas net by Erasmo
Saltarelli, but before Saltarelli could get settled, he gave up a goal to
Ice d-man Bernie John at the 18:40 mark of the first. Staked to a 3-0
lead after the first period, Sanger and the Ice then cruised to the
victory. The only scoring in the final two periods came from Indy, as
forwards Jason Baird and Ryan Aikia added third period insurance goals for
the homestanding Ice to set the final score at 5-0.
Nilsson took the loss in net for the Brahmas, allowing the first two Ice
goals on 12 shots. Saltarelli stopped 19 of 22 Indy scoring chances in
his relief effort. The defeat dropped the Brahmas record to 13-25-7 on
the season. Having lost their last four games in a row, Fort Worth will
look to rebound this Wednesday morning, February 11, when they travel to
Laredo to take on the CHL's best team at a special 11:00 a.m. start
time.
