San Rafael Pacifics News Release

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - It's early in the season but the San Rafael Pacifics are playing late into games. They played their third extra inning game on Friday night and needed an eleventh-inning home run down the left field line by Maikel Jova to give the Pacifics the edge, 5-4, over the Hawaii Stars.

Last season's NABL MVP had another clutch performance with the game-winner off of Mike Jackson, Jr. (0-1). Jova also singled to right in the fifth to drive home left fielder Jamie McGraw.

"It's unbelievable. That pitch was good, I waited for one pitch," said Jova. "He threw a lot of sinkers, a lot of splitters. He threw me the curveball and I was ready."

Jova wasn't the Pacifics' only hero though. With the Pacifics trailing 4-1, catcher Matt Quintero blasted a two-run homer in the sixth that cut the lead to 4-3. First baseman Darrick Hale's single to center in the seventh scored second baseman Price Kendall to knot the game at 4-4.

Pitcher Dan Rogers (1-0), signed by the organization as a free agent on Thursday, came on in the eighth inning and kept Hawaii at bay for four innings. The righty limited the Stars to a pair of hits while fanning seven and issuing just one walk to earn the win in his first appearance as a Pacific. Starter Christian Scholl went six innings and allowed four runs on six hits with four strikeouts. AJ Gallardo pitched a scoreless seventh and struck out two.

"I couldn't ask for a better night," said Rogers. "I tried to stay mentally ready down in the bullpen and when I was told to start getting loose I just tried to get ready to do my job and help the team get a win."

San Rafael (18-6) faces Hawaii (12-15) again on Saturday, June 29. First pitch is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Albert Park. The game is expected to be a sellout and walkup tickets will be available one hour prior to gametime at the Guarantee Mortgage Ticket Booth outside of Albert Park.
