THE SAN JOSE GIANTS...open the Second Half Thursday evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Bakersfield Blaze. San Jose enjoyed a stellar First Half posting a 39-31 record en route to the North Division title. The Giants finished four games ahead of the second-place Stockton Ports (35-35). San Jose opens the postseason on Saturday, September 8 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division series against an opponent still to be determined.

Starting Pitching Rotation...Joe Martinez will get the ball for the Second Half opener on Thursday night. Martinez paces the Giants pitching staff in strikeouts (69) and innings pitched (81) while his five wins are tied for the team-lead. Friday starter Paul Oseguera has also won five games in addition to boasting the eighth-lowest ERA in the California League (3.05). Ronnie Ray makes the start on Saturday in the series finale. Ray, like Martinez and Oseguera, has been in the starting rotation the entire season and has won five games.

Season-Series...The Giants are 4-2 this season against the Blaze posting series wins in Bakersfield and San Jose. They took two-of-three at Sam Lynn Ballpark, May 4-6 (W 13-1, L 2-0, W 7-1) before winning two-of-three at Municipal Stadium, May 31-June 2 (W 13-2, L 5-4, W 9-3).

Taylor Wilding Promoted...Taylor Wilding, San Jose's lone representative in the California-Carolina League All-Star Game earlier this week, has been promoted to Connecticut (AA). Wilding posted standout numbers out of the bullpen with the Giants during the First Half. In a team-high 26 relief appearances, Wilding was 4-0 with a 1.52 ERA and 11 saves (tied for second-most in the California League). The 22-year old right-hander allowed two unearned runs in his single inning pitched at the All-Star Game last Tuesday and then earned his promotion Wednesday.

Roster Moves...The Giants have made a flurry of roster moves over the past few days. In addition to Wilding's promotion, pitcher Brian Wilson finished his rehabilitation assignment and has returned to Fresno (AAA). Wilson worked three scoreless innings and notched two saves in three appearances last week. Fellow reliever Jerry Oakes (9 games, 0-0, 5.79 ERA) has been assigned to Augusta (Low-A). Meanwhile, pitchers Wayne Foltin (1-1, 5.96 ERA, 5 SV), David Quinowski (1-2, 3.27 ERA, 1 SV), and Darren Sack (0-0, 6.17 ERA) were placed on the Disabled List. Foltin and Sack should return within the next few days while Quinowski (elbow) is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.

Bakersfield Blaze...The Blaze, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers, enter the series with a league-worst 29-41 overall record. Bakersfield finished the First Half in last place in the North Division - ten games behind the Giants. The Blaze have lost six of their last seven games. Catcher/DH Taylor Teagarden (.314, 12 HR, 38 RBI) and third baseman Chris Davis (.267, 12 HR, 48 RBI) lead the Bakersfield offensive attack. The Blaze are near the bottom of the California League in team batting average (.251 - 7th) and earned run average (5.50 - Tied 8th).
