THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... continue their road trip this evening with the opener of a three-game series against the Lancaster JetHawks at Clear Channel Stadium. San Jose won two out of three games from the host Bakersfield Blaze in their most recent series. Bakersfield claimed the series opener by a 7-5 score on Friday before the Giants bounced back with a 15-6 win on Saturday and a 4-2 victory last night. In yesterday's contest, Kyle Nicholson tossed six effective innings with just one run and four hits allowed to pick-up the win. Nicholson struck out five and walked one. Relievers Brian Anderson and Jason Stoffel combined to set down the last eight Blaze hitters of the game. Stoffel struck out a pair in a perfect bottom of the ninth for his 21st save of the year. Francisco Peguero (3-for-5, SB) led a 13-hit San Jose offensive attack.

Winning Ways... The Giants have won seven out of their last nine games and are 14-10 since struggling to a 5-14 start in the second half.

Road Warriors... San Jose is in the midst of a stretch (July 27-August 20) during which they'll play 16 out of 22 games away from Municipal Stadium. The Giants own a North Division best 36-23 road record this season. San Jose has won five out of their last six road series'.

Final Series Versus The JetHawks... This series marks the final regular season meeting between San Jose and Lancaster. The Giants own a 4-2 advantage in the season series. The JetHawks won two out of three games at Municipal Stadium from July 1-3 before San Jose swept a three-game set in Lancaster from July 17-19. The Giants are only 16-18 against South Division opponents this year.

Sandoval's Surge... Infielder Michael Sandoval is 13-for-30 (.433) with a home run in his last seven games. The hot streak has raised Sandoval's season batting average to .337 over 22 games played. Sandoval owns a sizzling .485 average (16-for-33) against left-handed pitching.

San Jose Leads Division By Seven Games... The Giants (64-49) currently own a seven-game lead over the Modesto Nuts (57-56) and an eight-game advantage over the Bakersfield Blaze (56-57) and Visalia Rawhide (56-57) for the top overall record in the North Division. Home field advantage (hosting Game Five) in the North Division Series will be awarded to the team with the best overall record.

Perez Climbs Doubles Leaderboard... Outfielder Juan Perez has hit five doubles in his last nine games increasing his season total to 33 - tops in the California League. Perez needs five more doubles to crack the San Jose Giants single-season top five list. Mark Leonard holds the club record with 50 doubles during the 1988 season.

Big First Inning... The Giants have scored 95 runs in the first inning this season - the most for the club in any inning. San Jose scored 11 times - all with two outs - in the top of the first on Saturday at Bakersfield.

Stolen Base Threats... The Giants are leading the California League with 181 stolen bases - nine ahead of the next-closest team (Rancho Cucamonga). The San Jose Giants single-season record for stolen bases is 233 (1989).

Stoffel's Saves... Relief pitcher Jason Stoffel has converted his last nine save opportunities dating back to July 7. In 12 relief appearances during that span, Stoffel possesses a 3.00 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 12 innings. His 21 saves this season are fourth in the California League.

San Jose Wins League Record Sixth Consecutive First Half Title... The San Jose Giants won their California League record sixth consecutive first half North Division title this season. The Giants finished the first half with a 45-25 mark - eight games ahead of both the Modesto Nuts (37-33) and Visalia Rawhide (37-33). By virtue of winning the first half, San Jose secures a berth in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The Giants have won three league championships (2005, 2007, 2009) in the last five seasons and will be attempting to win back-to-back titles for the first time in franchise history this September. San Jose will open the playoffs on Saturday, September 11 at Municipal Stadium with Game One of the best-of-five North Division Series. The previous league record for consecutive first half division titles was three (Visalia).

Lancaster JetHawks... The Lancaster JetHawks, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, enter tonight's action with an overall record of 43-70 - worst in the league. The JetHawks are 20-23 in the second half - three games out of the top spot in the South Division. Lancaster is third in the league in batting average (.283) and last in ERA (5.26).
