THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... , winners of eight in a row and 16 out of their last 19, begin their final series of the regular season Friday evening with the first of four straight games against the Lake Elsinore Storm at The Diamond. San Jose has not suffered a defeat since a loss to the Visalia Rawhide on August 25 as a victory tonight would match the Giants' longest win streak of the season. San Jose won nine straight games from July 5-13.
No-Hitter Caps Series Sweep Of 66ers... David Mixon, Ryan Shaver and Rafael Cova combined on the second no-hitter in San Jose Giants history during a 3-0 victory over the Inland Empire 66ers last night to complete a sweep of the three-game series. Mixon struck out 10, walked just one and retired 18 out of the 19 batters he faced over a dominant six-inning start before Shaver (2 IP) and Cova (1 IP) pitched out of the bullpen to complete the no-hitter. Brian Bocock gave San Jose the lead with a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning while Nestor Rojas added an RBI double in the sixth. The only previous no-hitter in Giants history occurred on May 5, 2002 when Boof Bonser (6 IP) and R.D. Spiehs (3 IP) combined on the feat in a win at Rancho Cucamonga.
San Jose Can Break Team Record For Wins In A Half... The Giants enter tonight's contest with a 48-18 record in the second half - one victory shy of setting the team record for most wins in a half. The 1988 club also won 48 games (48-24) during the second half of their season.
First And Second Half Champs ... San Jose won both halves in the North Division for the second consecutive season and the third time this decade (2001, 2008, 2009). The Giants rallied to the first half crown overcoming a five-game deficit with 18 to play as they took over sole possession of the top spot in the division for the first time with only two days left before the All-Star break. In the second half, San Jose went wire-to-wire en route to the division title. The Giants opened the second half with a 24-5 record and currently hold an 11-game lead over the Bakersfield Blaze (37-29).
Postseason Awards... Three Giants have been named to the Postseason California League All-Star team: pitcher Craig Clark and outfielders Roger Kieschnick and Thomas Neal. Clark was recognized as the California League Pitcher of the Year as the left-hander currently owns a 15-2 record and a 2.96 ERA over 25 appearances (24 starts). Clark has won a team record 14 consecutive decisions and is second in the league in wins, second in ERA and sixth in strikeouts (133). Kieschnick, who is in his first professional season, won the California League Rookie of the Year award. He is second in the league with 107 RBI's and tied for fifth with 23 home runs to go along with a .296 batting average. Neal possesses the fifth-best batting average in the California League (.330) in addition to hitting 22 home runs and collecting 86 RBI's. He's also second in on-base percentage (.423), third in runs scored (98), fourth in slugging percentage (.576), fifth in hits (152) and fifth in doubles (39).
Tied For The Best Record In Minor League Baseball... San Jose (90-46, .662) is currently tied with the Low-A Fort Wayne TinCaps (90-46, .662) for the best record among full-season teams in all of Minor League Baseball.
Ford Continues Second Half Surge... Center fielder Darren Ford has posted 15 hits in 21 at-bats (.714) with eight runs scored and five RBI's in his last five games. Ford is batting .366 since the All-Star break with eight triples, seven home runs, 36 RBI's and 26 stolen bases. He hit only .207 with one triple, two homers, 14 RBI's and eight steals in the first half. Ford also leads the team with a .343 batting average with runners in scoring position.
Giants Reach 90 Victories... San Jose has become the third team in Giants history to reach 90 wins in a single season.. 1. 92-44 (.677) - 1991 2. 91-52 (.636) - 1988 3. 90-46 (.662) - 2009
Errorless Streak... The Giants have played eight consecutive errorless games with their last miscue occurring on August 25 against Visalia - the last time the club suffered a loss. San Jose has committed the fewest errors in the California League (126) leading to the highest fielding percentage (.976).
Kieschnick Third All-Time In Single-Season RBI's... Roger Kieschnick is now third in San Jose Giants history in RBI's during a single-season with 107. Mark Leonard (1988) holds the record with 118 while Rich Aldrete (1988) is second at 108. Kieschnick is also tied for third in team history with 23 home runs (Tim Flaherty, '01, leads with 26 homers).

Lake Elsinore Storm... The Lake Elsinore Storm, an affiliate of the San Diego Padres, enter tonight's match-up with a 72-64 overall record and a 33-33 mark in the second half. Lake Elsinore has already clinched the top wild card spot in the South Division. The Storm are eighth in the league in batting average (.264) and third in ERA (4.18).
