San Francisco Giant Jeremy Affeldt Scheduled to Rehab in San Jose Friday

SAN JOSE, CALIF- The San Francisco Giants have announced pitcher Jeremy Affeldt is scheduled to play for the San Jose Giants on Friday, August 13th at Municipal Stadium as part of a rehabilitation assignment. Affeldt, 31, is recovering from a strained left oblique and was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 21st.

Affeldt is 2-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 37 games with San Francisco this season. The left-hander is in his second season with the Giants and was named the "Setup Man of the Year" in 2009 by This Year in Baseball after leading the National League with a 1.73 ERA in 74 games. His 33 holds in 2009 were tied for first in the Major Leagues.

Affeldt made his MLB debut in April of 2002 with the Kansas City Royals. In his nine-year career, Affeldt is 30-33 with a 4.26 ERA in 471 games with the Royals, Rockies, Reds and Giants.

Friday at Municipal Stadium is the fan favorite "A Giant Luau," presented by Alaska Airlines. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM and gates open at 5:30 PM. The evening will be full of Hawaiian festivities ranging from hula dancers and island music to Hawaiian cuisine and a special pig roasting ceremony in Turkey Mike's BBQ. In addition, the team will be wearing special Hawaiian themed jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. Fans that wear their Hawaiian gear to the game Friday night will receive two FREE future game tickets. Gates open at 5:30 PM so make sure to be one of the first 1,000 fans in attendance who will receive festive leis and thundersticks, courtesy of Alaska Airlines.
