
San Diego Wave President Jill Ellis to be Inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame this Saturday, May 6

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave FC President Jill Ellis will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame tomorrow, Saturday, May 6, at a ceremony at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. The private event will be streamed live on the National Soccer Hall of Fame's website and Telemundo's social media channels beginning at 11:00 a.m. PT.
Ellis was elected from the Builder ballot along with DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan and Lauren Cheney Holiday in the Class of 2023.
Jill Ellis was first announced as President of the San Diego women's soccer team in June 2021, and the club has already seen substantial success in its short history. In its inaugural 2022 season, San Diego broke the record for both the NWSL Playoff attendance record and the NWSL regular-season record, with 26,215 and 32,000 fans. Thus far in 2023, San Diego broke the NWSL home opener attendance record with a crowd of 30,854 on March 25 against the Chicago Red Stars. Wave FC also made history in 2022 as the first expansion team to make the playoffs before advancing to the NWSL Semi-Final.
The Wave FC President guided the U.S. Women's National Team to World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019 and is the only two-time FIFA Women's World Cup winning manager. Ellis led the USWNT for seven years to a remarkable 106-7-19 record and also coached the U.S. team at the Under-20 Women's World Cup in 2010.
The former National Team Manager (2014-2019) led the United States to eight tournament titles and earned honors as the FIFA World Women's Coach of the Year (2015, 2019) and the CONCACAF Women's Coach of the Year (2015).
