San Diego Wave FC News Release
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego Wave FC return to Snapdragon Stadium this Sunday, Oct. 15, to host Racing Louisville FC in the league's Decision Day. The Wave's annual Fan Appreciation match, presented by PNC Bank, is set to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. PT.
On Saturday, with a scoreless draw against North Carolina, the Wave clinched a top-two seed, securing a first-round bye and home-field advantage for a semifinal matchup. Goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan and the Wave's backline put in a strong defensive effort that earned the club its eight shutout of the season. Sheridan, who earned her 30th career shutout, earned three saves on the night, while defender Madison Pogarch made a goal line clearance to deny North Carolina to preserve the clean sheet.
Meanwhile, Racing Louisville came back from a two-goal deficit to beat Orlando Pride 3-2 and keep the club's playoff hopes alive on Friday night. Pride forward Marta first converted a penalty in the 17th minute and Kerry Abello scored five minutes later before Racing secured goals from Nadia Nadim and Kirsten Davis to pull even with Orlando. In the 74th minute, Orlando goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse punched Carson Pickett's corner into her own goal, providing Louisville the game-winning goal.
Overall, the matches between the two club's have been evenly set, with Louisville holding the slight edge with an overall record of 1-0-2 in Racing's favor. The last two matches between San Diego and Louisville have resulted in a scoreless draw, with the last match taking place on June 9 at Lynn Family Stadium. Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo scored the lone goal in the series to earn the 1-0 win back in May 2022.
