
San Diego Wave FC Falls 2-1 Kansas City Current at Snapdragon Stadium

San Diego Wave FC (9-7-3, 30 points) fell 2-1 to Kansas City Current (7-11-1, 22 points) on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium.
Kansas City started the match on the front foot, scoring in the third minute from midfielder Debinha. The Brazilian international received a ball on the top of the box from midfielder Cece Kizer. Debinha took a touch to her right foot and blasted a shot past Wave goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. The visiting side doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when forward Kristen Hamilton finished a cross from defender Kate Del Fava.
San Diego applied pressure early in the second half, scoring in the 50th minute off a corner kick. Midfielder Jaedyn Shaw delivered the ball into the box that was flicked on by Australian international Emily van Egmond that fell to the back post. Defender Sierra Enge pounced on the ball, rifling a left-footed shot into the netting. Despite outshooting Kansas City 15-5, the Wave was unable to find a breakthrough goal.
Next on the schedule: NWSL will head into a FIFA break before returning to regular season action on Saturday, Sept. 30. The Wave will head north to face the Portland Thorns at Provident Park with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. PT. The match will be streamed live on Paramount+.
Notes:
Defender Sierra Enge earned her second goal in her rookie campaign. The Cardiff-native has appeared in nine games (6 starts) after being drafted 13th overall in the 2023 NWSL Draft.
The Wave outshot the Current 15-5 in tonight's match.
