San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

After a tough loss in Fullerton last night, the Surf Dawgs took out their frustrations on the Reno Silver Sox in a 16-6 victory at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The 16 runs were a season high for San Diego and the 17 hits came close to a season high (19). Joey Huskins ended up a double shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Starting pitcher Chris Gale (2-5) pitched five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits with five strikeouts to pick up his second win of 2006. Carlos Chavez (6-4) was chased early and ended up throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with three walks for the loss.

The Dawgs wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, putting up three runs in the first inning. After Adam Mandel was retired, Chavez issued back-to-back walks to Tony Garcia and Nick Guerra. With two on and one out, Will Henderson popped up to second and left them on for Huskins. Huskins cashed in with a triple into the right field corner to score both runs; 2-0 San Diego. With Huskins at third, Matt Maloney, who was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored, singled in Huskins to make it 3-0.

Reno would put up one run in the third on a Phil Grau home run to pull to within two, but that is as close as the Silver Sox would get. In the bottom half of the third, San Diego sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs. Even more impressive, all of the seven runs were scored after two outs had already been recorded. At the end of three it was 10-1 Surf Dawgs.

The Sox managed to put up five more runs over the next two innings but it would be to no avail because the Surf Dawgs put up two of their own in the fourth and four more in the eighth.

Six members of the Surf Dawgs ended up with multi-hit games and eight of the nine starters all gathered at least one hit in the contest.

San Diego (14-15) looks to get back to .500 tomorrow when they take on the Silver Sox (14-15) at 6:05 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Aaron Wilson (2-2) will take the hill for San Diego in search of his third victory of 2006.
