Chico Outlaws News Release
After dropping an 18-inning marathon last night, the Chico Outlaws bounced back Saturday night to even the series at 1-1 with a 7-5 9-inning win.
Phil Springman knew that his bullpen needed him to pitch deep into the game and give them some rest, which is exactly what he did. Springman led the Outlaws by throwing into the 8th inning and picking up his seventh win of the season. He gave up just two runs on five hits and a walk.
Robert Anaya relieved Springman and made it interesting in the 9th inning. He gave up three runs and needed George Huguet's help to finish off the Flyers.
Huguet came in to get Clemente Bonilla for the last out of the game on a diving play by Desi Wilson at first base.
Robert Mason threw effectively for the Flyers in his second start of the year, but he did walk seven batters. He threw 5.2 innings and gave up three runs on just four hits.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead on Hector Zamora's solo blast to right in the 4th inning.
The Flyers pieced together their relief pitching with Craig Frydendall, Reed Dickert and Jon Grijalva.
Chico scored in four consecutive innings starting with the 5th inning.
Bobby Gandolfo and Alex Froloff had RBI walks in the game.
Todd Gossage cracked a two-run double in the 7th inning.
The Outlaws also executed well with two RBI sacrifice flies by Mike Mallory and Todd Gossage.
The biggest game of the GBL's second half will take place tomorrow with the rubber match of the three game series. Jeff Groeger will try and get the Flyers within a half game of first place at 6:05.
It is also Fan Appreciation Night!
