Orange County Flyers News Release

oe Frazee's take-out slide in the bottom of the 18th inning ended the longest game in GBL history in the Flyers favor. Chico's catcher Craig Kuzmic lost his balance on the take-out slide at the plate and threw the ball into right field, which scored Buddy Morales.

The Flyers broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the 18th inning to beat the first place Chico Outlaws and get within a half-game of first place.

The Flyers took a 4-2 lead in the 7th inning when Rich Pohle drove home Hector Zamora. Pohle scored on a throwing error by 2B Bobby Gandolfo.

Peanut Williams also hit a two-run homerun in the 1st inning to put the Flyers up 2-0.

Chico fought back to tie the game at 2-2 in the 4th inning when Mike Mallory's solo homerun was followed by a Craig Kuzmic double. Kuzmic scored on a bouncing single by Jason Van Meetren.

Ryan Olson got Mike Mallory to ground into a big double play in the 8th inning, which made the score 4-3 Flyers. But that play was followed by a throwing error from Bret Levier on a routine ground ball.

That error loomed large when Van Meetren doubled Kuzmic to the plate to tie it at 4-4.

In extra innings, Craig Kuzmic hit a solo blast to give Chico their only lead of the game in the 13th inning.

They could not hold it, however, as Clemente Bonilla walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 5-5.

Todd Gelatka was the fifth Flyers pitcher of the night and he got the win in his first relief appearance of the season.

Chris Jakubauskas and Nick Singleton both pitched very well as the respective starters, but they obviously received no decisions.

After the longest game in GBL history, both teams will have to recover and get back in action Saturday at 6 pm. Robert Mason gets the start for the Flyers.
