Sockers Reach New Heights
For the first time in the 2002-03 MISL season the San Diego Sockers are above .500. With an 8-4 win in the second game of a home-and-home versus the Dallas Sidekicks on Nov. 10, the Sockers moved a game above .500.
On the Road Again
Tonight's game marks the first game of a five-game road trip for the Sockers. The five straight road games will take them to Milwaukee, Philadelphia (twice), Baltimore and Harrisburg. As the only MISL team in either the Mountain or Pacific time zones, the Sockers are about a three-hour plane ride from even their nearest competition and will log more air miles to the East Coast than evenNBAand NHL teams, who don't face Eastern competition as often in their unbalanced schedule.

SAN DIEGO, California-- The San Diego Sockers defeated the Dallas Sidekicks, 8-4, in the second game of a home-and-home in front of 6,052 fans at the San Diego Sports Arena.
With the victory, the Sockers moved a game above .500 (5-4) and two and one-half games behind the Milwaukee Wave for first place in the Western Conference.
Defender Gaston Pernia led San Diego with two goals and four blocks in the win. Shawn Beyer and Shandley Phillips each registered a goal while Carlos "Chile" Farias notched two assists to increase his lead in the Spalding Scoring Race to 36 points.
Pernia's goal at the 13:34 mark of the second period was the game-winner as the Sockers never looked back after that. Nick Vorberg (13 saves) earned tthe win in goal for San Diego while Sagu (six saves) took the loss for Dallas.
Extending the Streak
The Sockers have extended their first ever winning streak of the young MISL season to three with a 3-0 record in the last three games.
Several Sockers Top MISL Leaderboard
With nine points in two outings last week Carlos "Chile" Farias increased his lead in the Spalding Scoring Race to 36 points. He leads Kansas City's Dino Delevski by three points. Delevski (33 points) registered 10 points last week to move into second place while Milwaukee's Joe Reiniger holds third place with 28 points. Farias is also the MISL leader in assists with 10 while he is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals (one) with three other players.
Fellow teammate, defender Gaston Pernia has bolcked 28 opponent shots in nine games this season, putting him in first place in the MISL. Baltimore's Jason Dieter ranks second with 22. Pernia led the Sockers and the World Indoor Soccer League in blocks last season with 53 in 23 games.
Goalkeeper Nick Vorberg tops all MISL net-minders with a 7.10 points-against average, just ahead of Milwaukee's Victor Nogueira (7.59).
Welcome Back Home
The Sockers don't play another game at the friendly confines of the San Diego Sports Arena until Dec. 5. The Thursday game versus the Cleveland Force marks the annual "Cool School" game.
