St. Louis Steamers News Release

The Steamers played two road games in a span of 21 hours this past weekend, defeating Cleveland 6-5 Friday night and losing to Milwaukee 7-1 Saturday afternoon. In Cleveland, Matt Caution scored an unassisted goal with less than a minute remaining to cap a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Force at the Convocation Center. Following the win, the weary Steamers boarded an early Saturday-morning flight to Milwaukee. The MISL Central Division leading Wave proved too much for the Steamers in a 7-1 defeat.

The Steamers have four of their next six games at The Family Arena prior to the Feb. 27-29 All-Star Weekend. On Feb. 7, the San Diego Sockers visit The Family Arena for a 1:05 p.m. kickoff. The matchup marks the first time San Diego, a former power in the original MISL of the 1980s, visits The Family Arena this season. San Diego defeated the Steamers 8-1 December 14 in the teams' only previous meeting of the season. San Diego (10-11) has lost three road games in a row and trails Dallas by three games in the MISL Western Division. The Sockers are led by 44-year-old goalkeeper Victor Nogueira, a perennial League all-star, standout defender Sean Bowers, and midfielder Paul Wright.

Following the San Diego game, the Steamers travel to Monterrey, Mexico, for the first time this season to take on the Fury in a Feb. 8, 6:35 p.m. game. The Steamers' previously scheduled visit to Monterrey (Jan. 11) was postponed due to the Special Summit of the Americas.

Throwing Caution to the Wind

St. Louis Steamers defender Matt Caution scored an unassisted goal with 54 seconds remaining to cap a wild fourth quarter and provide the margin of victory in the Steamers 6-5 win over the Cleveland Force Jan. 30 at the Cleveland Convocation Center. On the game-winning goal, Caution passed the ball off the boards to beat a defender, regained possession, and buried a shot into the upper right corner of the net. Caution's tally was the seventh goal of a fourth quarter that began with the score tied 2-2. It also marked the first goal of the season for the 29-year-old, who grew up in the St. Louis region and starred at nearby Fort Zumwalt South High School.
